The Bangladeshi director from Brahmanbaria, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury. Behind the TV film Hawa Ghar and popular series Bondhon under Maasranga, has decided to scrap his new project funded by the government. This decision was made due to the creative constrictions he had been facing during filming. He is currently reimbursing the grants given by the government for the project.
Can’t Get Good Movies These Days
In another seemingly tragic situation, what with movies in Bangladesh for the past decade failing to reach the creative heights of its earlier years. Most of the Deshi directors have moved to India or abroad to pursue their creative endeavors. Without interferences or cutting in-between their decisions. Directors don’t even get final cut on major projects anymore.
Amitaph made another name for himself after his directorial debut of Aynabaji in 2016. The film was a success both critically and commercially in Bangladesh. Aynabaji was very well received in private screenings, including at Cannes Films Festival. It won him an award from Seattle’s South Asian Film Festival. He has made other movies like Rickshaw Girl and Punorujjibon afterwards.
The movie in regard, that was scrapped, was based on a novel written by the late Humayun Ahmed. Named Pencile, the project wasn’t meeting up to his vision. Wasn’t keen on doing it the way the authorities wanted him to. Due to the political involvement and lack of creative freedom, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury has withdrawn from making that movie. He is returning 18 lakhs, the first installment of the 90 lakhs given from the government. With compensation added as well.
