Update: A new trailer came out, spotlighting scenes from all 9 shorts of the series. Also the list has two more added instead of the original 7, it’s 9. (18th, Aug 2021)
Anime anthologies aren’t new, but they aren’t stopping anytime soon. What started by the Wachowski brothers from 2003 with The Animatrix, brought other ones like Halo Legends and Batman Gotham Knight. This time though, it will begin as a passion project by the biggest of all franchises, Disney’s Star Wars.
A New Vision
Star Wars: Vision will feature 7 different studios from Japan: Studio Colorido, Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio, Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Science Saru, and Production I.G. Each of these studios will create their own unique, original animated segments. Unrelated stories based on the Star Wars universe. Disney’s first animated anthology series.
Their unique talents put together bring out a lot of colorful variety in the animation department. Japan has been churning a lot more anime than they’ve had the past 10 years. With so many new studios opening up, the talent roster keeps getting bigger.
With the success of the Mandalorian, and the rise of Disney+, their subscription service, Disney needs more content to fill. Of course, they already have a roadmap for more Star Wars show, Vision is a big part of it.

When Does It Debut?
It will premiere on Disney+ around September 22nd this year. The names of each of the anthology episodes as follows:
- The Duel by Kamikaze Douga (Batman Ninja)
- Lop & Ocho by Geno Studio (Golden Kamuy)
- Tatooine Rhapsody by Studio Colorido (A Whisker Away)
- The Twins and The Elder by Trigger (Kill La Kill)
- The Village Bride by Kinema Citrus (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0)
- Akakiri and T0-B1 by Science Saru (Japan Sinks)
- The Ninth Jedi by Production IG (Ghost in the Shell)
- T0-B1 by Science Saru
- The Elder by Trigger
If this is successful, Disney might do another one later on, probably a second season. Like one of those Love, Death + Robots type of deal. Maybe even bring in Studio Bones, whom are currently working on the highly popular shows like Mob Psycho and My Hero Academia.
