The Election Commission (EC) intends to distribute National Identity Cards (NIDs) in Bangladesh to all 16-year-old and older citizens of the nation. In a meeting headed by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Monday, the commission is likely to make a judgment in this respect. The constitutional body will gather data on people who were born on or before January 1, 2006.
How To Register For NID in Bangladesh
Those interested in receiving their NIDs must apply in person at the Upazila Election Office or register online. Citizens will receive NIDs only when biometric registration is complete. The NIDs will be provided as part of the government’s Covid-19 immunization campaign, according to Election Commission sources. The age requirement for obtaining a NID should be decrease by two years, rather than the current 18 years.
In 2019, the Election Commission collected data on citizens for the last time. At the time, the EC gathered data on both qualified citizens (18 years old) and 16-year-olds (born on or before January 1, 2004). From the data obtained in 2019, 6,758,825 individuals were include in the final voter list in 2020. And 1,465,046 people were included in the final voter list in 2021, and they have already gotten national identity cards.
