According to a survey conducted by the Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists, depression, and frustration have directed to suicide ideation among teenagers. Survey says 4.7 percent of teenagers had suicidal thoughts and 1.5 percent had suicidal plans and attempted suicide at least once between October 2018 and June 2019.
On Saturday, the National Organization of Psychiatrists presented the findings of a survey. 1,744 adolescents and youths aged 10 to 24 years at a knowledge program at the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital.

Females Have More Tendency In Suicide Than Males In Bangladesh
Females were more likely than their male counterparts to have serious suicidal thoughts (2.6% vs. 6.6%). Suicidal thoughts were also more common in urban residents than in rural residents (8.2 percent vs 3.7 percent ). The average age at which someone attempted suicide for the first time was 17 years old. Suicidal behavior had been reported by nearly half of the household members polled.
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among adolescents and youths, according to Helal Uddin Ahmed, an associate professor at the hospital.
Ignorance
He claims that mental health is often overlooked in the country. Suicide cases increased 17.36% in the first year of the pandemic compared to the previous year, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. However, some private organizations put the figure as high as 45 percent.
In a previous report, the Aanchal Foundation stated that more than 14,000 people committed suicide between March 8 last year and February 28 this year. Majority of them being between the ages of 20 and 35.
Never take any of your friends lightly. While they thrive for mental support, we ignore it. Thinking it’s just a saying and nothing else. Being suicidal has become a trend now but not everyone is trending. Some of them are actually suffering from depression and need support. Here, parents don’t have the tendency to listen and children are not comfortable sharing. So friends are all they got. But sadly they also ignore their condition.
