This is Russell Crowe’s second film as director since 2014 as he continues his 37-year acting tenure. Screen Media, a division of Chicken Soup For Soul Entertainment, will be distributing the movie in America. Poker Face is getting set to be released in theaters on November 16th, 2022. Moreover, the film will also be released to streaming platforms soon after that.

To have a poker face means to bluff or not give anything away, and it is a poker term that is common in pop culture. It was the name of a song by Lady Gaga and is widely understood even by those who do not play poker. What does that mean in the context of the film? Well, Poker Face sees Russell Crowe as Jake Foley, who is a tech billionaire and heavy gambler. Foley’s group of friends, who are just about as high-class as he is, all decide to play a poker game with an extreme amount of prize money on the line. As the game unfolds and continues, the players realize more than money is on the line. The movie is an action-packed thriller and is meant to keep the audience entertained and glued to the screen, wondering what’s supposed to happen next. The ‘Poker Face title references not only the game of cards but possibly the game of life the group of friends is also playing to survive.
What Does The Trailer Tell Us?
The trailer appears to be almost a tale of two stories. In the first half, we’re introduced to Jake Foley, who has amassed a lot of money through his tech endeavors. He brings a band of friends to play a high-stakes poker game; however, it appears Foley uses his technology prowess to read his opponent’s moves and bodily tendencies. The second half of the trailer shows a stark change in tone as Foley’s house gets attacked by invaders who are on the hunt for Foley. The suspense rises when the poker players who were once competing with each other are now teaming up to survive.
Who is in Poker Face?
Despite being a slightly smaller release in terms of marketing, Poker Face actually has a star-studded cast led by Crowe and Liam Hemsworth. Naturally, Crowe is a veteran in the film industry, starring in films like Gladiator, Unhinged, A Beautiful Mind and plenty of other movies. Hemsworth has been carving out his own lane and niche for the last 15 years, taking part in movies like The Hunger Games, The Expendables 2, Independence Day: Resurgence, and more. In fact, Hemsworth and Crowe have collaborated a few times in the past, most recently coming together for the Marvel film Thor 4: Love and Thunder. Supporting Crowe and Hemsworth is RZA of Wu-Tang Clan fame, Aden Young, Elsa Pataky, and others to round the ensemble cast.
When and Where is Poker Face Coming Out?
Poker Face has already been previewed and released in some markets worldwide. The movie premiered at the 17th Rome Film Festival a few weeks back in mid-October. The film will be fully launched worldwide in theaters on November 16th. However, in a move that more film companies seem to be doing, Poker Face will be dropped onto streaming platforms just a week after its theatrical release on November 23rd, 2022. So even if you can’t make it to the theater you’ll be able to watch Poker Face in the comfort of your own home soon after it comes out in theaters.
