In June 2021, Xiaomi surpassed Samsung and Apple to become the world’s number one smartphone brand for the first time. Throughout June of this year, the Chinese company sold the most smartphones in its history. Xiaomi’s development in Huawei and Honor’s historical regions, including Africa, China, Europe, and the Middle East, helped reach this milestone, according to the latest statistics from research company Counterpoint. Xiaomi was formed in 2010, and its first smartphone was introduced in 2011.
Xiaomi’s Market Share Compared To Apple And Samsung
By quantity, Xiaomi smartphones accounted for 17.1% of the worldwide smartphone market. Samsung and Apple emerged in second and third, with 15.7 percent and 14.3 percent market share, respectively. According to Counterpoint statistics, Xiaomi was the second most popular smartphone brand in the world in the second quarter of this year.
Reasons
Xiaomi’s ascension looks to have been aided by Huawei’s demise, as the Chinese company continues to exit the European market after losing access to Android and Google services in 2019. Due to supply constraints, Samsung’s sales have decreased, while Xiaomi’s have increased in India, Europe, and China. According to Strategy Analytics, Apple’s smartphone shipments in Europe rose in 2021 as a result of the post-COVID rebound, with Apple exhibiting good growth as well. The iPhone maker saw a 15.7 percent increase in revenue from 2021 to 2022, owing to the high demand for the iPhone 12.
Samsung may still be behind Xiaomi in sales, according to the research company, depending on the scenario in Vietnam. Samsung, on the other hand, may be able to reclaim its position if the situation improves.
Bangladesh’s Contribution
Xiaomi grew 94 percent in the Bangladesh market from 1 April- 30 June 2021, according to another Canalys study. And they came to fifth among the top five smartphone suppliers in the nation. Realme is the most popular smartphone in Bangladesh, with 20% of the market.
